Coaching Staff

George Haas
Assistant Coach

George Haas returns for his fifth season on the Pioneer Basketball staff. Haas coached under then head coach David Schultz during the 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 seasons and was retained on the staff by current head coach David Buchanan in the fall of 2009.

Prior to joining the Pioneers staff, Haas was a highly successful coach at Wauwatosa East High School for 27 years - 13 years as the junior varsity coach and 14 years as the varsity head coach. His teams won 482 games, including a 270-50 record at the varsity level.

In his 14 years as a varsity head coach, Wauwatosa East won 12 conference championships, while advancing to the State Tournament in 1997 and 2002. Haas won several Conference Coach of the Year awards and was named Wisconsin's Coach of the Year in 2002.

During his high school tenure, Haas coached several players that went on to successful collegiate careers and two players that eventually played in the National Basketball Association - Tony Smith and Devin Harris.

"Retaining Coach Haas in our program has been a great asset for this program. He has creative ideas to improve the skill level and IQ of our players, and instantly connects with recruits and their families," said Buchanan. "Coach Haas is also a very accomplished veteran coach who shares his experience with all of us and is great help during practices and games. We are fortunate to have him at Carroll. Our entire staff and players look forward to working with him for another season."

James Weber
Graduate Assistant Coach

James Weber begins his second season as assistant coach for the Carroll University men's basketball program. This year he will also fulfill graduate assistant duties as he pursues his master's degree in Education at Carroll.

Weber is a 2009 sociology graduate of Beloit College and was a three-year member of the basketball team. During his time on the basketball team, he led the Buccaneers in field-goal percentage in 2006-2007 and 2007-2008.

Two years ago, Weber was a member of the Sun Prairie High School coaching staff that won its first regional championship since 1999. This summer, he coached in the Wisconsin Playground Warriors AAU program, where the team compiled a record of 58-9.

"I'm excited to have James returning to our program," said Buchanan. "He has a sincere interest in coaching at the college level and will get a chance to increase his role in player development, recruiting and scouting opponents. It is also an extra benefit that he is familiar with the league and the Madison area for recruiting."
